How are the chickens raised?

Our birds spend their entire lives (besides the brooding period, which is when the chicks need to be under heat lamps) outside, foraging for bugs, munching on grass, taking dust baths, and basking in the sun. They are supplemented with a fresh ground grain ration, grown and ground right here on the family farm. 

There's no such thing as a fully "grass fed" chicken, duck, or turkey, since they are mono-gastric animals and cannot gain all their required nutrients from forage alone. We mix a high quality, species specific grain ration that animals are given constant access to and free choice over.

How are the chickens processed? 

All of our poultry is professionally processed in a USDA inspected facility, frozen, and stored in our IDALS licensed freezers. This allows us to offer you a product that we know is safe and can be sold retail, wholesale, and across state lines. flash frozen on site. By flash freezing the meat, it actually ensures a greater degree of "freshness" than distributing them any other way and is the best option for food safety and compliance with Iowa regulations.
